Raspberries!

Raw food is an important part of my vegan diet.  So, last week at the local Super Target, I splurged and bought a teensy container of organic raspberries.  They were $3.50 of pure berry goodness!  A real treat: low in calories, and high in vitamin C, fiber, and flavor!

Over a couple of day's time, these raspberries were my breakfast.  I rinsed them off and then simply popped them in my mouth!  Heavenly!  Typically, I don't combine sweet fruits into recipes, unless it's an all raw, all fruit one.  I have learned that fruit digests and is assimilated by the body best when eaten alone, on an empty stomach.  For some, this might seem like too limiting a "rule" to follow.  But for me, it fits just right.  I always feel so uncomfortable when I eat foods of every kind all in one meal.  Simple is better for me.  My body concurs.

You can learn more about the principles of proper food combining and Natural Hygiene by reading these classics, Fit For Life or Fit For Life II, both by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond.  They are fun, funny, and so informative!  They changed my life!  (Even the authors in the popular book, Skinny Bitch, gave 'Fit For Life' a brief shout-out!)  Or, you can check out this website: RawFoodExplained.com.  The delivery is a little more utilitarian and textbook-ish, but still very accurate.

Until then, just buy (or better yet, grow your own) organic raspberries!  They are healthy and delicious... all by themselves!

I am always interested in your blog. My Dad has always been a vegan and my hubby's mom. We're proof that GF and vegan go hand in hand nicely. Ha!

Truthfully, I wouldn't go back even if I could because GF opens the world to grains like vegan is a door to the world of fruits and vegetables.

I always eat fruit first thing in the morning, and try to follow the rules of food separation as much as possible. The raspberries look delicious! I bought a tiny container of blueberries for $2.50 and was floor by how LOW the price was compared to what the usually cost. Yeah...berries are wonderful but expensive.

I agree with bitt of raw. I can't wait to go pick my own too. My parents get so many natural berries growing around their property. Yum.

Oh, I miss rapberries so much!! :D There are plenty of them in Russia, but in Spain they are almost impossible to find :( Actually, all the berries except of blackberries (which do grow here) are considered an exotic treat.

I think people don't give enough importance to food combining, and eating fruit alone works better for me too.

By the way, thanks for you lovely comment :) You're right: even if a lot of people don't understand our values, meeting someone who does encourages you.

The blogosphere has helped me in this sense. Even if you're physically far away, you have the feeling that you actually know people who understand you :D

Hi ladies!

So many of you are gardeners--it is wonderful! Sadly, I am not. But I would like to try! This year, I'm going to give it my best shot! Maybe I'll even save a little moolah along the way! Those organic berries aren't cheap at the store, no they're not! :D

Terina,

Thanks for your inspiration to cook gluten free! I'm excited to try and do a few things differently.

Ksenia,

Blackberries?! I love them just as much! I am happy with any kind of berries! Don't feel bad if you only have blackberries! Not on my account! :)

Hey! That berry looks PERFECT. Straight from mother nature.

I agree about fruit monomeals being optimal. Theoretically you can combine any fruits within a subcategory, like pineapple and orange (both acid fruits) or dates and bananas (both sweet fruits).

Ooooh and a salad that I really like is pineapple, tomato, and lettuce. Combines well and tastes GREAT!

Hi, Raw Oz Gal and
ShannonMarie!

Thank you for your comments! I love every comment I receive. My biggest failure is in my lack of prompt acknowledgment of them. So thank you, my friends, for your patience. I am happy that my posts can bring you some joy or remind you of something else that you would like to revisit on the web.

Love! :)
