My New Favorite Snack!

While perusing the shelves at Good Earth Natural Foods, they caught my eye...   I know that vegan athlete, Brendan Brazier, touts them for their superior nutrition...   I've even noticed that many vegan bloggers toss them into their smoothies and over top green salads...  What am I referring to?

Raw Organic Hempseeds!

Oh Boy, are they good!  What soft, chewy, earthy, tiny morsels of deliciousness!  Their flavor reminds me a little bit of sunflower seeds, but they're nowhere near the same size.  Measured in tablespoons, these seeds are minute, yet jam-packed with natural goodness: protein, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, iron, and omega-3's!  They are also super convenient--they are already shelled, ready to eat straight out of the bag, which is what I like to do!

I'm going to be sad when these babies are all gone.  They were a bit expensive, but the cost was totally worth it!  Besides, they are too yummy not to buy again!

Raw organic hempseeds are my new favorite snack!  If you haven't already, you should give them a try!  I'm sure you'll like them as much as I do!

They're also a delicious addition to a raw kale salad with olive oil and lemon juice and salt. A yummy favorite around here. I'd never even thought to eat them by themselves...

Hemp is delish!! One time I made my own hemp milk with raw seeds and filtered water.

I just ordered some almond butter that has hemp and flax mixed in...can't wait to try it.

I love these as a topping on green salad. The flavor reminds me of pine nuts. So glad you tried them.

They are yummy, aren't they? The thing that bugs me is that they remind me of something else that I have tasted before, but I can't remember what...

Cool! I've never tried them - don't think they are sold in Australia, but I will make sure to try them when I visit the USA! Brendan Brazier is an awesome athlete so you're in good company!

Hey, so what do they taste like? They kinda look like sprouted mung beans!

Love your blog...just got finished reading the whole front page. I must say I love Lara bars and my fav. is the cashew cookie, you have to try it! I love hemp seeds to and hate that the price is what keeps me away the most. So, right now I'm doing chia, next time I'll do hemp:)

Girlfriend, do you know what you are talking about!! Oh I do, I do, I dooooo love hemp seeds so! They are so awesome on my morning oats, adorning an apple muffin, or sprinkled over bananas that are slightly overripe, over top of fresh berries with a sprinkling of raw sugar for crunch . . . Mmmmmm!! I want to grind them up in my vita-mix next and make hemp seed butter. Heaven, I tell you. Heaven!

I love hemp seeds. They are like a staple in my house. I am also a big Brendan Brazier fan. If all goes well, I hope to post an interview with him on my site. I just have to get the timing right to speak with him.

I just saw these yesterday at PCC. I was wondering if you could make hemp milk from them since I've been wanting to try hemp milk but want it to be organic. So far I have not found organic hemp milk anywhere except online. Since someone mentioned doing this - I may just have to pick these up and give them a try!

Thanks for stopping by my food blog and leaving a comment - love your visits. You weren't kidding about cabbage being the theme of the day - I had no idea till I went and tried to catch up on my food blog reading!

Hey Valerie!
Thanks a million for your kind words! It's always great communicating with other vegans. I will definitely look into the book Fit For Life. It sounds like my kind of read.
I'm so glad you made a post about hemp seeds - They are awesome! I put them in my smoothies before and after I workout. They definitely do the trick!Since they contain a good load of amino acids, it makes the recovery process a lot easier. Yay hemp seeds!

Cheers.

Thank you, ladies and gents, for each of your comments!

WOW! So much enthusiasm about hemp seeds! But I shouldn't be surprised because they really are THAT good!

I especially appreciated your kind words, Rose, about my picture taking. Thank you! I try really hard to create good shots. But I'm such an amateur, I never know for sure what the rest of the world thinks of my photos--I'm so self conscious. All I can say is that the "Macro" button on my simple Canon digital camera is a lifesaver for up-and-close shots--keeps everything in crisp focus. (If I can just stop twitching for a moment.) :) Plus, natural light is a wonder! (Unfortunately, I didn't have it for my hemp photos.) Everything just looks better with sunlight rather than fluorescent bulbs, in photos or real life.

Love you all! :)
