One huge baby step!

I tuned in to Oprah this afternoon and was shocked, but so pleased, to see her doing a segment about eating with conscience, spotlighting vegan actress and animal activist, Alicia Silverstone and her new book "The Kind Diet".  Alicia shared some recipes from her book.  And she took us viewers along on an ordinary, veg-friendly grocery shopping trip with her.  Oprah even raved about how good vegan food is!  I was amazed!  You can check out all this cool stuff for yourself by clicking on the "Oprah" link above.

Unfortunately, the entire hour was not all vegan friendly, but it was definitely one huge baby step for bringing animal concerns and true health to mainstream society!  Every act of honest information and compassion matters, no matter how big or small.  Hooray for the seeds of change!  I'll have to read Alicia's book!  It looks great!

I saw it too! And Vegan food IS delicious. I find that people shy away from it because it requires *gasp* thought and commitment and time and effort and unfortunatly people have become quite lazy in more ways than one. Theres so much more to it than that but I'll just stop there for now :) I agree with you Val, hooray for small changes!!!

Leah,

It means a great deal to me that you would give such effusive praise to the vegan lifestyle. I know you probably don't consider yourself vegan. But you are very friendly towards vegans! That in itself is a big deal!

It's difficult for me to feel antagonism from some people about veganism. I really struggle with that sometimes, especially because this lifestyle is all about peace and love. Why would anybody be against that? But you, on the other hand, are very kind.

I really mean it when I say, thank you Leah, for that. I have noticed that you have a gift for loving all people, even when you may not completely understand them, and I admire you for that...

As with all things, every little bit in the right direction is great, and lots better than taking steps backwards.

I've been wanting to try out some of her recipies, have you yet? I would like to live a more earth and animal friemdly lifestyle. It does feel hard to change, but Im making steps I don't buy reg milk anymore only rice milk and you know what? I think its way better!! I am not eating ice cream or cheese very often if at all. I really am just trying to wean myself off of the need for dairy and yeast all together. more fruits and veggies, fruits are hard for me though, never been in love with them but I'm trying :)
